Renowned Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, affectionately known as Mama G, recently opened up about her early career and the choice to reject being labeled the “Liz Benson of Enugu.” In an interview with NWAFO TV, Ozokwor shared insights into her journey and the importance of carving out her unique identity in the industry.

Hailing from Enugu state, Nigeria, Ozokwor’s talent blossomed in her hometown, garnering recognition and comparisons to established actress Liz Benson-Emeya. However, Ozokwor was quick to assert her individuality and refused to be pigeonholed into the role of a Liz Benson counterpart.

Reflecting on the early days of her career, Ozokwor recalled instances where she encountered such comparisons. “I don’t know how it started, but all I knew was that when I started and people started recognising this woman from Enugu… they started saying, ‘Hey, that’s the Enugu woman, the Liz Benson of Enugu,'” she shared. However, she firmly rejected the comparison, asserting, “No, with all due respect, Liz Benson, I don’t want to be like her. I want to be myself. I am Patience Ozokwor of Enugu.”
