Reports are coming in that UK rapper Fredo has been sentenced to five years in a Dubai jail.
The rapper was arrested in Dubai late last year, with authorities charging him with possession of cannabis. Fredo has declined to comment on the case, which was set to reach court in Dubai this week.
In the run up to the hearing, many believes that Fredo could be handed anything up to three years for possession – if the charges were pushed to intention to supply, some onlookers warned, he could gain five years in prison, or above.
According to multiple sources online the hearing has finished, and Fredo has been given a five year prison sentence in Dubai.
Shocked fans have expressed their distress on social media. Writer and commentator Jude Blay wrote simply: “Fredo got sentenced to 5 years in prison in Dubai. Five years.”
@tlninetyfour added: “Fredo got sentenced to 5 years in Dubai jail? Yikes.”
Real name Marvin Bailey, Fredo has courted controversy in the past but remains one of UK rap’s MVPs. Topping the charts with a Stormzy collaboration, he created history by teaming up alongside Dave on ‘Funky Friday’.
A smash hit, the relationship would broaden on ‘Money Can’t Buy Happiness’ – a showcase for Fredo’s rap finesse, it was Executive Produced by Dave himself.
Fredo’s latest album ‘Unfinished Business’ landed last year. On its release Clash wrote:
In refusing to be hemmed in, ‘Unfinished Business’ allows Fredo to be seen at his broadest, and most contradictory. On one track he’ll decry his own behaviour, before repeating those mistakes. But ultimately, that’s the point – stripping back the veneer of fame and the noise of social media, Fredo has opted to highlight his humanity on a brave, searing release.
