Osun Election: Adeleke Declared Winner in Closely Fought Contest
Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared the winner of the 2026 Osun governorship election, securing a fresh mandate after polling 511,067 votes. He defeated Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 444,815 votes, a 66,252-vote margin.
Winner Announced at Collation Centre
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally announced Adeleke as the winner at the collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday, August 16. Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, the INEC Returning Officer, made the declaration, bringing the closely watched governorship contest to its official conclusion.
Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs, Oyebamiji Secures 11
Adeleke won 19 of Osun's 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11, according to reports on the final collation. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Total Valid Votes and Rejected Ballots
INEC's announced figures put the total valid votes at 985,079, with 20,721 rejected votes and 1,005,800 total votes cast. The result gives Adeleke a significant margin over Oyebamiji, indicating a strong showing for the Accord Party in the Osun State governorship election.
The declaration brings an end to the closely contested election, with Adeleke retaining the Osun governorship under the Accord Party. As the newly declared winner, Adeleke will now focus on implementing his campaign promises and addressing the needs of the Osun State residents.
