Burna Boy becomes the first Afrobeats Artist to perform at Grammys Awards

Nigerian afrobeats star Damini Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, will make history as the first ever afrobeats artist to perform at the Grammy Awards.

The Grammys announced today that Burna Boy will take the stage at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 4, 2024.

The event will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Burna Boy racked up four nominations this year, including Best Global Music Album for his critically-acclaimed 2023 release “I Told Them.”

He is also up for awards in the Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Music Album, and Best Melodic Rap Performance categories.

However, this upcoming performance marks a breakthrough moment for Burna Boy and the growing afrobeats genre.

No artist representing the West African sound has ever been tapped to perform on the Grammys main stage.
