Fake Officer Caught in Lagos
Moferewa Maiye, a man accused of pretending to be a Department of State Services (DSS) operative, was arrested in Lagos. He allegedly used a DSS uniform and a toy gun to extort motorists in Abuja. The suspect was tracked down to his hideout along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, following credible intelligence.
DSS Uniform and Toy Gun Recovered
Security sources claim that Maiye was arrested while wearing what appeared to be a DSS tactical uniform. A toy pistol was allegedly recovered from him during the operation. Investigators believe the suspect had been using the uniform and fake firearm to scare motorists and commuters into handing over money.
Impersonation and Extortion Claims
According to security sources, Maiye told investigators that he is from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State. He allegedly claimed that his late brother, Monday Maiye, was a DSS operative who died several years ago. Maiye also claimed that the DSS uniform and other items recovered from him belonged to his late brother.
Investigations Ongoing
The suspect is currently in DSS custody while investigations continue. Authorities are trying to determine how Maiye came into possession of the Service's tactical uniform and other equipment. The case highlights the increasing activities of people who pose as security personnel to intimidate Nigerians and carry out criminal acts.
No Official Statement Yet
The DSS has not yet released an official public statement on the arrest. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to establish how long Maiye has been involved in similar acts of impersonation and extortion.
