The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the West African Examinations Council have introduced a one-off ₦4,000 fee for WASSCE result verification, ending the practice of candidates paying separate institutions to check the same certificate at different stages of admission.
Under the new system, eligible candidates pay the fee once through JAMB's designated Verification Service. JAMB coordinates the verification and makes the outcome available to the relevant institution. A candidate applying to more than one school should not pay another ₦4,000 to each institution for the same WASSCE verification.
The fee applies to candidates covered by the JAMB admission process. WAEC result verification is the process of confirming that the O'Level result a candidate presents is genuine and matches the examination body's records. It is different from checking a WAEC result online. When a tertiary institution needs to confirm authenticity, the examination body verifies the information against its records. This helps schools determine whether a candidate has the required O'Level qualifications and reduces the risk of fraudulent or altered certificates being used during admission.
Verification is also separate from uploading a result. Uploading tells JAMB which qualification a candidate is presenting. Verification confirms the result is genuine by checking it against the records of the body that issued it. Having uploaded a WAEC result does not mean the verification process is complete.
The payment must go through the specified JAMB platform. Candidates are warned against paying agents or unofficial websites claiming to offer the service.
JAMB has also introduced a system that allows candidates to begin O'Level verification remotely rather than repeatedly travelling to a tertiary institution or CBT centre.
The verification process runs through the JAMB e-Facility. A candidate logs into the account with a registered email and password, finds the O'Level/Result Verification service on the dashboard, enters details including examination body, examination number and number of sittings, and makes the payment through the designated channel. The system issues an O'Level Verification Code. The candidate then sends VERIFY [Verification Code] to 55019 or 66019 from the appropriate phone number and completes the result-upload or verification process as instructed.
Candidates with two O'Level sittings need to pay attention to their JAMB profile. After verified results are available, they may have to use the e-Facility profile to select the subjects they want to use for admission, choosing a minimum of five and a maximum of nine, with no subject selected more than once. Having two sittings does not mean paying the ₦4,000 twice. The arrangement describes the verification as a one-off process, and two sittings should not be read as requiring two separate payments for the same service.
Candidates who have already uploaded their result or completed WASSCE verification should not make another payment just because of the new announcement. The advice is to check the JAMB profile and confirm the current verification status. If the result has already been successfully verified under the applicable JAMB process, the new arrangement is not a reason to start the process again. The purpose of the system is to eliminate repeated verification and the additional costs candidates have faced during admission processing.
If a candidate has completed verification through JAMB and a school asks for another verification payment, the candidate should ask what the new charge is specifically for before paying. A tertiary institution may have other legitimate admission, screening or documentation charges, but that is different from paying again to verify the same WASSCE result. Candidates should not assume every fee described as a "verification fee" is automatically covered by the new arrangement.
