Jean Ojiro was overwhelmed as she took home the Miss Universe Kenya 2026 title on Saturday, July 26 at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi. The crowning was part of a glittering grand finale complete with confetti and sparklers.
A Journey of 30 Finalists
The competition started with 500 hopefuls, eventually whittled down to just two contestants before Ojiro was announced the winner. The demanding boot camp reduced the group of 30 finalists to a top 15 ahead of the gala night. The activities throughout the process were designed to test communication, leadership, presentation, and advocacy skills, with judges scrutinising the contestants at every stage.

Standing between Ojiro and the crown in the final rounds were Mokera Onchiri, Mercy Awonda, and Immaculate Wachera. Wachera was considered one of the tougher challengers, having previously finished first runner-up at the Miss BRICS International Pageant, giving her a head start in international pageant experience. Ojiro's journey to the title was far from short, but her hard work paid off in the end.
Gratitude to Kenyans
As part of her prize package, Ojiro received a Nissan Note alongside the national title and the right to represent Kenya at the international Miss Universe competition, which brings together contestants from over 100 countries and territories. Shortly after the crowning, Ojiro took to her verified Instagram account to share her emotions with fans. She also directed her gratitude squarely at Kenyans who had backed her throughout the competition.
