Olukanyinsola Odebode, a 30-year-old man from Wales, has been sentenced to a 12-year extended prison term for raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while he was out on bail. The crimes occurred in the Gwent Police and Dyfed-Powys Police areas in Wales between June 2024 and September 2025.
Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration. The court heard that he raped and sexually assaulted one woman in the Gwent Police area before being arrested and released on bail. While on bail, he went on to sexually assault another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
Extended Sentence Due to Public Risk
Judge Huw Rees ruled that an extended sentence was necessary because of the risk Odebode posed to the public. The judge described Odebode as a "sexually precocious person" and stated that his behavior had a "profound" impact on the two victims. Odebode will serve at least two-thirds of his nine-year custodial term before being considered for release and will remain on the sex offenders' register for life.

A probation report described Odebode as posing a high risk of serious harm due to his lack of insight and "attitudes of entitlement." Victim impact statements presented in court detailed the emotional and psychological impact of Odebode's actions. One victim described him as "very predatory" and accused him of humiliating and degrading his victims. The court also heard that seven other women had previously reported concerns about Odebode's sexual behavior to police since 2019, but those allegations did not result in convictions.
Odebode's Lawyer Hopes for Rehabilitation
Odebode's lawyer, Matt Murphy, told the court that he hoped Odebode would develop greater understanding of his offending while serving his sentence. However, Judge Huw Rees was unconvinced, stating that evidence presented during the trial and reports before the court led him to conclude that Odebode was a high risk to the public.
Odebode's sentence serves as a reminder that the justice system is in place to protect the public from those who pose a risk to society.
