Mavin Records has publicly warned against a talent manager, Lotanna Harry, saying he has been using the label's logo and presenting himself as an authorised representative. The disclaimer, issued from the company's Legal Affairs department, is dated September 10, 2026, and was published on Wednesday, September 16.
The label said Harry has never been appointed or authorised to act on its behalf. Its only known relationship with him was as a paid video model, engaged on a subcontract basis for select videos.
"The Company hereby confirms that Lotanna Harry, whose photo is hereby publicized alongside this notice, has never at any time been appointed, engaged, authorized or mandated by the Company to act as its agent, representative, intermediary or authorized person in any capacity whatsoever," the letter read in part.
Mavin warned members of the public and its business partners not to rely on any representation, negotiation, transaction, or communication made by Harry while claiming to act for or in association with the label. According to the company, any such action is unauthorised and cannot create an obligation or liability for Mavin.
"All persons are hereby expressly warned not to deal with or rely upon any representation made by the said individual as being authorized by the Company. Any person who chooses to engage with the Individual in reliance upon his/her purported authority does so entirely at his/her own risk," the notice stated.
Mavin said it reserves the right to take legal action against Harry or anyone involved in the unauthorised use of its name, logo, or business interests. The company described the notice as a measure to protect its clients, partners, artists, associates, and the public from unauthorised representation or purported dealings involving Harry.
Responding to the notice, Harry described the situation as a misunderstanding and clarified that he is not a Mavin employee or management staff. He said he runs the Record Label Access Network, an independent platform and association that connects record labels, artists, and industry professionals across Nigeria.
According to Harry, Mavin is one of several record labels featured and advertised on the RLAN platform. He said Mavin's presence on the platform is intended to provide visibility and opportunities and does not mean he works for the label.
The public notice from Mavin included a photo of Harry alongside the text. The label's statement was shared on social media, where it drew attention from industry followers. The record label, founded in 2012, is home to artists including Rema, Ayra Starr, and Johnny Drille. Its roster has expanded over the years, and the label has become one of the most prominent in African pop music.
Harry's response did not address the specific claim about using Mavin's logo. He maintained that his work with RLAN is separate from any personal representation of the label. He said the platform exists to give smaller labels and independent artists access to larger networks, and that featuring Mavin was part of that mission.
The situation remains unresolved publicly. Mavin's legal department has stated its position clearly, and Harry has offered his account. Neither side has indicated further steps as of the publication of the notice.
The disclaimer is the latest in a series of public clarifications from Nigerian record labels regarding unauthorised use of their names. The music industry in Nigeria has grown rapidly, and with that growth comes increased scrutiny of who speaks for which brand. Labels have become more protective of their identities as their commercial interests expand beyond music into endorsements, partnerships, and other ventures.
For now, Mavin has drawn a clear line. Anyone dealing with Harry in connection with the label does so at their own risk, according to the company. Harry, for his part, says the whole thing is a misunderstanding.
