The Nigerian Air Force has opened its 2026 recruitment exercise, giving young Nigerians a shot at enlisting for the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 47/2026. Online registration began Thursday, September 3, 2026, and the portal will shut down on October 14, 2026. The service made one thing clear from the start: the application is free, and anyone demanding money to "help" secure a slot is a fraudster.
The recruitment targets two groups: tradesmen and women, and non-tradesmen and women. Each category carries its own age and education requirements.
Tradesmen and women must be between 18 and 27 years old by March 1, 2027. They need a National Diploma (ND) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) from an accredited institution, plus at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings across WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB or NBAIS. Technical applicants, like drivers, must also hold the relevant Trade Test certificate and a valid driver's licence. Sportsmen and women are encouraged to apply but must present proof of professional achievement, including certificates and medals.
Non-tradesmen and women fall in a younger bracket: 18 to 22 years old by March 1, 2027. They need the same five credits, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings. They must also submit their Primary School Certificate and Secondary School Testimonial.
All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, medically, physically and psychologically fit, and meet the minimum height requirement.
The application process runs entirely through the official recruitment portal. Applicants select the BMTC 47/2026 exercise, read the guidelines, fill the online form with personal and educational details, and review everything before submitting. After a successful application, they print the acknowledgement slip, Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Local Government Area (LGA) Attestation Form. The LGA Attestation Form must be signed by an authorised official: a military officer from the applicant's state, a police officer not below the rank of Chief Superintendent, a substantive LGA chairman or secretary, or a magistrate.
The Air Force warned that applicants who fail to complete the online process will not generate the documents needed for the next stage. Those who finish successfully will be invited to a Zonal General Aptitude Test. The examination date will be announced later through the recruitment portal. Candidates who pass the aptitude test move on to the final selection interview.
The service stressed that the exercise is transparent and urged applicants to ignore fraudsters demanding money. In its words: "The recruitment exercise is free of charge." It advised applicants to follow the official guidelines and avoid unofficial agents or third parties.

The application portal will remain open until October 14, 2026, after which no new applications will be accepted.
