TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, 35, and her estranged husband Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey were discovered dead at her residence in Owasso, Oklahoma, on Thursday, July 23, both having sustained gunshot wounds. A child who was present in the home placed a 911 call that led officers to the scene.
Court Records Reveal Troubled History
Court records reveal a deeply troubled history between the two. Gilson had filed for protective orders against Duffey on two separate occasions in 2021, and sought a third in June 2026. That most recent order had been extended and was set to remain in force until August 24, just weeks after her death.
Police Investigation Continues
Authorities have not yet officially ruled the incident a murder followed by a self-inflicted death, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police in Owasso continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the deaths of both individuals.
Resurfacing TikTok Video Draws Attention Online
The circumstances of Gilson's death have drawn particular attention online following the resurfacing of a TikTok she posted less than two weeks before she was found dead. Using the widely circulated "Netflix documentary" trend, she wrote on screen: "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out she abused a child" She added a caption to the video that read: "I wish I was joking." The clip circulated widely after news of her death broke, drawing significant reaction across social media platforms.
