South African pop sensation Tyla is in the running for three prestigious awards at the 2024 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, set to take place on July 13.
The awards ceremony will be hosted by the iconic characters from the American animated TV series SpongeBob SquarePants – Spongebob, voiced by Tom Kenny, and Patrick Star, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. This special event will commemorate the show’s 25th anniversary, with the beloved characters presenting awards to children’s favorite influencers across film, music, TV, and sports during a live broadcast.
Tyla, 22, has been nominated in the Favorite Breakout Artist category, where she will compete against American stars Coco Jones, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Reneé Rapp, Teddy Swims, Victoria Monét, and Tate McRae.
In addition to this, Tyla is also vying for the Favorite Global Music Star Award. She faces stiff competition from BLACKPINK (Asia), Troye Sivan (Australia/New Zealand), Zara Larsson (Europe), Karol G (Latin America), Taylor Swift (North America), and Dua Lipa (UK).

Furthermore, Tyla’s hit 2023 single ‘Water’ is a contender for Favorite Viral Song. Other nominees in this category include Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’, David Kushner’s ‘Daylight’, Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’, Tate McRae’s ‘Greedy’, and Paul Russell’s ‘Lil Boo Thang’.
Tyla shot to international fame with her viral song ‘Water’ in 2023. The track features on her self-titled debut LP, which recently surpassed the impressive milestone of 1 billion streams.
In another highlight for South Africa, Kairo Forbes, the daughter of the late rapper AKA, has been nominated in the Favorite African Kidfluencer category. She will compete against Johannesburg musical trio Biko’s Manna, Nigeria’s Dream Catchers Academy and DJ Wysei, and Afrobeats star Wizkid’s son Boluwatife Balogun.
Taylor Swift leads the nominations at the 2024 Kids’ Choice Awards with six nods. Close behind are Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Justin Timberlake, each with four nominations.
