Why was Fredo arrested in Dubai?
British rapper Fredo, whose real name is Marvin Bailey, was reportedly arrested in Dubai for possession of cannabis.
He was allegedly caught with cannabis while on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
Fredo has reportedly been held in jail since September and has already been to court over the alleged offence.
Dubai has strict anti-drug laws, and does not recognize any medical cannabis programme, making cannabis illegal regardless of whether it is used for medical purposes.
A person caught with cannabis in the country could face up to four years or more in prison, as well as a fine of 10,000 dirhams (£2,200), according to legal advocates Hassan Al Riyami.
It’s unclear what the exact charges against Fredo are, however, Detained In Dubai CEO Radha Stirling told the outlet he could face deportation, a fine, and a lifetime ban from the UAE.
