Biography
CKay is Chukwuka Chukwuma Ekweani, a Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer born in Kaduna on 16 July 1995 to an Igbo family from Anambra State. His father, a church choir conductor, taught him piano, and he started making beats on FL Studio before any of it was a career.
He moved to Lagos in 2014 and joined Chocolate City in 2016. “Container” (2018) was his first Nigerian hit. “Love Nwantiti”, from the 2019 EP CKay the First, took two years to catch fire, but its TikTok run in 2021 made it an international smash. It charted across Europe, reached number 23 in the UK and put him on the Billboard Hot 100. In May 2022 it became the first African song to pass a billion streams on Spotify.
He moved to Warner Music Africa and Atlantic, released the Boyfriend EP (2021) and the album Sad Romance (2022), and co-founded his own label, Boyfriend Music. More recent releases include Emotions (2024), CKay The Second (2025) and Banger Boy (2026).
