Biography
Kweku Smoke is Paul Amankwah, a Ghanaian rapper and songwriter who grew up in Berekum and later studied at KNUST. He raps in Twi, English and Pidgin, mostly about growing up poor, surviving and staying loyal. He first put out freestyles under the name YRS.
In 2019 he met Sarkodie in the studio, which led to “Yedin” and his first taste of wider attention. Since then he has been one of the most prolific rappers in the country: We Rage and Snoop Forever (2020), Big Shmoke (2022), Old Compound and Playman (2023), then Kweku Jesus (March 2024), which topped iTunes in Ghana. Born in Hell followed later that year.
“Holy Ghost” won Best Rap Performance and Best Hip Hop Song at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards, where he was also named Best Hip Hop/Hiplife Artist. He headlined his own concert, The Revival, in Accra in December 2024. His album No Days Off, released in September 2026, features Lasmid, Kwesi Arthur and Real Dikoo.
