Otile Brown is Jacob Obunga, a Kenyan R&B singer, songwriter and guitarist born in Kisumu in 1994 and raised in Miritini, Mombasa. He was writing songs by 13, and he has spent most of his career as an independent artist.
“Imaginary Love” (2016), with Khaligraph Jones, made his name, and his debut album Best of Otile Brown (April 2017) carried “Basi”, “Alivyonipenda”, “Shujaa Wako” and “Aiyolela”. He left Dreamland Music in 2017 to go independent, and “Baby Love” won Male Video of the Year at the 2018 Pulse Music Awards.
He writes mostly in Swahili, and his love songs have made him one of East Africa’s most consistent R&B names. His albums since include Just In Love (2020), Uptown Flex (2022), Grace (2024) and The Real King Of The East (2025). He has recorded with Alikiba, Jux, Nyashinski, Sanaipei Tande and Nadia Mukami.
