Biography
Phyno is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and producer born on 9 October 1986. He comes from Anambra State and was born and raised in Enugu. A school friend gave him the name, short for “phenomenal”. He learned drums and piano at secondary school, studied public administration at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu, and started out as a producer in 2003 before he began rapping in 2010.
He raps mainly in Igbo, mixed with Pidgin and English, because, as he has said, he respects his culture. “Ghost Mode” with Olamide won Best Collabo at The Headies 2012, and “Man of the Year (Obago)” won Best Rap Single in 2013. Both are on his debut album, No Guts No Glory (2014), along with “Parcel” and “O Set” with P-Square.
His other albums are 2 Kings with Olamide (2015), The Playmaker (2016), Deal With It (2019), Something to Live For (2021), Full Time Job (2024) and Let That Sink In (October 2026), which features Seyi Vibez on “Ndu Ka Aku” and Fireboy DML on “I Believe”.
