Ruger

Ruger is Michael Adebayo Olayinka, a Nigerian singer and songwriter born in Lagos on 23 September 1999, with family roots in Yagba West, Kogi State. D’Prince discovered him, gave him his stage name and signed him to Jonzing World in January 2021.

His debut EP Pandemic (2021) carried “Bounce”, which became one of the year’s biggest Nigerian songs. The Second Wave followed that November with “Dior”. “Asiwaju” (2022) held number one on Apple Music in Nigeria for a month, and he was named Best New Artiste at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards. His sound leans on dancehall, delivered with a swagger that made him instantly recognisable, eye patch included.

His debut album Ru the World came out in September 2023. In 2024 he released the joint mixtape RnB with Bnxn, led by “Romeo Must Die”, and left Jonzing to start his own imprint, Blown Boy Entertainment.
