Diana Hamilton “W’ate Manim”: what the title means

“W’ate manim” is Twi, and the English subtitle gives the sense: You have honoured me. AmeyawDebrah.com and MyJoyOnline both covered the release as a testimony song, and the theme matches how Diana Hamilton has built her career. Her best-known records thank God out loud rather than ask for anything.

The video description invites listeners to “share your testimony in the comments”, and many did. A short clip posted on her channel the day after release, captioned “God did it”, drew more than 60,000 views of its own.

The credits

The official video lists three names. The song was written by Cofi Boham and produced by Oshogbo, the producer Herbert Crassie, according to blog coverage of the release. The video was directed by McWillies. At five minutes exactly, it is long by pop standards and normal for a worship record that is meant to be sung through, not skipped.

The copyright line on Apple Music reads “Diana Hamilton Music, under exclusive license to MAD Solutions LLC”, and the release link points to MAD Solutions. Apple files it under its broad “Worldwide” genre rather than gospel.

Who Diana Hamilton is

Diana Antwi Hamilton started young. She was a backing vocalist for the gospel singer Francis Agyei at 13, according to her Wikipedia biography, and released her debut album, Ɔsoro bɛkasa, in 2007. Her second album, Ensi wo yie (2010), made her a major name in Ghanaian gospel.

The big moment came with “Adom”. On 26 June 2021 she was crowned Artiste of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards on the strength of it, a gospel singer taking the biggest prize of the night. The 3Music Women’s Brunch named her Most Streamed Female Act the same year. In 2024 she brought in the Nigerian gospel star Mercy Chinwo on “The Doing of the Lord”.
