Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of 4,800 Special Assistants, with 25 slots allocated to each of the state's 192 wards. The appointments are part of the governor's administration's plan to take governance to the grassroots and recognise the collective effort of APC members in securing the party's electoral victory.

Okpebholo Links Appointments to APC Victory

Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo said the appointments were a direct recognition of the hard work done by APC members in securing the party's electoral victory. "Appointing 4,800 SAs is not an issue at all because we all worked for this victory," Okpebholo said during a meeting with APC members from the state's 18 local government areas at the Government House in Benin City.

Distribution and Selection Process

According to Edo APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe, the 4,800 positions will be distributed across the 192 wards, with 25 SAs allocated to each ward. A committee has been constituted to work with the wards to select nominees according to set guidelines. The committee will compile the names of qualified nominees and forward them to the party headquarters in Benin City.

Okpebholo's Loyalty to APC

Addressing the gathering, Okpebholo reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and told members that the party's victory was a collective achievement. "I want to say good morning to everybody and tell you that I love you all," Okpebholo said. "I want to let you know that the party is our party. We don't have any other party than APC."

Government's Plan to Extend Governance to the Grassroots

The governor also said the appointments were intended to ensure that government programmes, opportunities, and development reach communities beyond the state capital. "So, we are taking governance to the grassroots so that whatever is from the top will also go down to the bottom," Okpebholo said.

APC Chairman Praises Okpebholo's Administration

Edo APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe praised Okpebholo's administration for its efforts to reposition and strengthen the APC in Edo. "The party had become more active and stable under the governor," Tenebe said. "The administration had created opportunities for party members to participate in governance."
