Biography
Blaqbonez is Emeka Akumefule, a Nigerian rapper and singer born on 29 January 1996 and signed to Chocolate City. He comes from an Igbo family from Imo State, grew up with his mother, a pastor, in a mixed Yoruba and Urhobo neighbourhood, and studied computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.
He found out he could rap at 13, when a cousin dared him to write his own verse, and he kept it secret because his parents did not approve. At 16, in 2012, he beat 3,000 rappers to win Terry Tha Rapman’s Zombie competition, and he was first runner-up in Vector’s King Kong contest. In 2019 his self-declared title, “Best Rapper in Africa”, became the most talked-about subject in Nigerian hip-hop, and The New York Times profiled him among the new guard of Nigerian music.
His albums include Sex Over Love (2021), with Amaarae, BNXN, Tiwa Savage, Nasty C and Joeboy, Young Preacher (2022), Emeka Must Shine (2023) and No Excuses (2025), with AJ Tracey, Pa Salieu, Olamide and Phyno. NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME followed on 16 October 2026 with Asake, Ruger and Tml Vibez. Its singles “Chanel” and “IKEBE 3000”, both with Asake, reached the Apple Music charts in Nigeria and Ghana, and the two performed “IKEBE 3000” together at London’s O2 Arena.
