Biography

Mayorkun is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, a Nigerian singer, songwriter, pianist and dancer born in Lagos on 23 March 1994, the first of three children. He was working in a bank, and had just written his resignation letter, when Davido spotted his cover of “The Money” on Twitter in February 2016 and called him the same day.

Davido signed him to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), where his debut single “Eleko” (2016) reached number 5 on the Nigeria Playdata chart. “Yawa”, “Sade”, “Che Che” and “Mama” followed, and his debut album, The Mayor of Lagos (November 2018), reached number 15 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. He took his “Mayor of Lagos” concerts to more than 35 schools, Ibadan and Abuja, toured the UK with Dremo and played Wireless with Davido.

He announced his exit from DMW at the launch of his second album, Back In Office (2021), released through Sony Music West Africa. The Love.. For Free EP (2023) and Still The Mayor (2025) followed. In July 2026 he reunited with Davido and FOLA on “B4 B4” from Davido’s album Oriadé, their first song together since he left the label.
