Biography
Amerado is the stage name of Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, a rapper from Ejisu in Kumasi, born on 14 February 1995. The name means “governor” in Akan, and he raps mostly in Twi. He is best known for Yeete Nsem, his long-running rap series that delivers the week’s news in verse.
A third-place finish at the Solid FM Freestyle Show in 2015 led the producer Azee Ntwene to sign him to MicBurnerz Music. The Rapmare EP came in 2017, and a guest spot on Sarkodie’s “Biibi Ba” in 2018 widened his audience. His 2021 EP Patience, with Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, Fameye, Ypee and Kweku Flick, won Best EP at the 2022 3Music Awards. His debut album G.I.N.A followed that October.
He was the first Kumasi rapper to win Best Rapper at both the Ghana Music Awards and the 3Music Awards. In December 2024 Audiomack gave him a plaque for passing 100 million streams. Since 2023 he has staged the My Motherland Concert in Ejisu every December, and his recent projects include The Gold Coin (2024) and Against All Odds (2025).
