Kabza De Small is Kabelo Petrus Motha, a South African DJ and producer born in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, on 27 November 1992 and raised in Pretoria. More than anyone, he is the producer who took amapiano from township parties to the rest of the world, and fans call him the King of Amapiano.
He started making music around 2009 and released Avenue Sound in 2016. “Umshove” (2018) was his breakthrough. With DJ Maphorisa he formed the Scorpion Kings, and their 2019 EPs Piano Hub and The Return of Scorpion Kings went multi-platinum. His solo album I Am the King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust (2020) went double platinum, and Spotify named him South Africa’s most-streamed artist that year.
The hits kept coming: “Abalele” and “Asibe Happy” with Ami Faku, Rumble in the Jungle (2021) with Tresor, KOA II Part 1 (2022), Isimo (2023) and Bab’Motha (2025). He runs his own label, Piano Hub, and has won seventeen South African Music Awards.
