Biography

KOJO BLAK, also written KOJOBLAK, is McDonald Addotey Braide, a Ghanaian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter born on 23 July 2001 and raised in Dansoman, Accra. He grew up on Michael Jackson and E.T. Mensah. At St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School he sang as Toy Boy in a group called BMT, then sharpened his voice in the Christ Embassy choir before taking the name KOJO BLAK.

In 2023 he signed with Blue Magic Records and Encore Recordings. His debut EP 757 came out on 15 May 2024, and “Excellent” with Kelvyn Boy became one of that year’s big radio songs. “Next Door” with Sarkodie followed in February 2025, and his second EP, 131, brought in Sarkodie, Kelvyn Boy and Uganda’s Joshua Baraka. He also writes for others, including KiDi’s “Lomo Lomo”.

At the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards in 2026 he had nine nominations and won Best New Artiste, plus Best Afrobeats Song for “Excellent”. His 2026 singles include “Sailor” with Oxlade and “ABILITY” with Medikal and Beatz Vampire.
