Biography
R2Bees is a hiplife duo from Tema made up of two cousins, Faisal Hakeem, known as Omar Sterling, and Rashid Mugeez, known as Mugeez. Sterling handles most of the rapping and Mugeez most of the singing, in Twi and Pidgin. Their long partnership with the producer KillBeatz has produced some of the best-loved Ghanaian pop of the last fifteen years.
“Yawa Gal” (2008) and “I Dey Mad” started things, and the album Da Revolution (2009) brought “Kiss Your Hand” and guests including Sarkodie, Samini and Wande Coal. Refuse to Be Broke (2013) was a bigger statement, with Wizkid on “Dance” and “Slow Down”, Sarkodie on “Ajeei” and “Bayla Trap”, and “Life (Wallahi)”. The duo were nominated at the 2013 BET Awards, and Forbes had listed them among African acts to watch that year.
Site 15 (2019) and Back 2 Basics (2021) followed. Both members also work solo: Omar Sterling released Victory Through Harmony in 2017, and Mugeez is one of the most sought-after hook singers in Ghana.
