Medikal

Medikal is Samuel Adu Frimpong, a Ghanaian rapper and songwriter born in Accra on 5 April 1994 and raised in Sowutuom. Before rap he played football for Sekondi Hasaacas. He picked his stage name because he liked rapping about doctors and hospitals.

His first tape, Medikation, came out in 2013. By 2017 he and Sarkodie had the most nominations at the Ghana Music Awards, and he released Disturbation that year with “Too Risky” among its songs. He was part of the remix of Kwesi Arthur’s “Grind Day” and brought Joey B onto “La Hustle”. His quick, witty style mixes Pidgin and Ghanaian slang.

In 2021 he was named Hiplife/Hip Hop Act of the Year at the 3Music Awards and Hiplife/Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. His projects include Island (2020), Amazing Grace (2021), Crossroads (2022), Planning & Plotting (2023) and Healing (2024).
