Biography
Nandy is Faustina Charles Mfinanga, a Tanzanian singer, songwriter and actress born on 9 November 1992 in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region. Her name is short for Nandera. She sang in her Lutheran Sunday school choir from the age of five and led her school choir at Lomwe High School.
A friend introduced her to Ruge Mutahaba of Tanzania House of Talent. There the producer Emma the Boy made “Nagusa Gusa”, which was a hit within a week. In 2016 she was runner-up on Tecno Own the Stage in Lagos, where she was mentored by M.I Abaga, Yemi Alade and Bien. “One Day” (2017) took her to Coke Studio Africa and won her AFRIMA’s Best Female in Eastern Africa, which she won again in 2020.
Her debut album The African Princess came out in 2018, followed by the Taste EP (2021) and Maturity (2022). In 2023 she launched her own label, The African Princess, with Yammi as its first signing. She is a UNICEF ambassador for water and sanitation in Tanzania, runs a lipstick line, and played herself in the TV series Huba.
