Biography
Sista Afia is Franchesca Duncan Williams Gawugah, a Ghanaian Afropop singer and songwriter born on 8 November 1994. She is a niece of the Ghanaian clergyman Nicholas Duncan-Williams. She grew up in Accra and Kumasi, went to the Reverend John Teye Memorial Institute, and moved to the UK to study nursing before coming home in 2015 to start her music career.
Bisa Kdei was an early inspiration, and the two recorded “Kro Kro No” together. Her breakthrough came with “Jeje”, featuring Shatta Wale and Afezi Perry. Her album Queen Solomon followed in 2018.
Off the stage she founded the Sista Cooks Foundation, which has fed thousands of vulnerable children and women across Ghana, and she has urged other musicians to give back. In October 2026 she joined MzVee, Sefa and Ugoccie on “Enjoyment”, and “Balcony”, her single with Medikal, is listed on Apple Music for 20 November 2026.
