Ugly Dray released “Sinner” on 31 August 2026. It is a solo record with no guests, it lasts two and a half minutes, and it was his first release as a lead artist in almost six months. Before it reached Spotify or Apple Music, though, his fans could already buy it.
Sold to fans two weeks early
He announced the song on Instagram on 11 August with two dates in the caption: “SINNER OUT SOON…..31/08/26. Early access on @even.biz 17/08/26.” EVEN is a platform where listeners buy music straight from the artist, and “Sinner” went on sale there a full two weeks before the streaming release. Four days later he posted again to remind followers there were “2 days more for early access”.
That is still an unusual way for a Ghanaian rapper to put out a single. The normal route is to drop a song everywhere at once and hope the playlists pick it up. Offering it to paying supporters first is a bet that a small audience that pays is worth more at this stage than a large one that streams. He had used EVEN before, for the EP Pride Before The Fall, so this was not his first time selling music that way.
The timing helped. The announcement came five days after we wrote about Meek Mill hosting him on TikTok Live, when more people than usual were looking him up.
The credits
Big Fii produced “Sinner”, and Ugly Dray tagged him in the first announcement. SterryO mixed and mastered it. The only writer listed is Cyril Dally, which is Ugly Dray’s own name, and he is credited separately as lyricist. The copyright line reads “Ugly Dray / Indigo Music Factory”, with his name ahead of the label’s.
The song runs for two minutes and 31 seconds and there is nobody else on it. That sets it apart from most of what he has released lately. His last EP, Beneath the Glory, had Efya and Afel as guests, and the single that followed “Sinner” has a featured artist too.
Drill, or Afro-fusion?
How the song is described depends on where you look. Apple Music files it under Ghanaian drill, the only release of his to carry that tag. His own page on EVEN calls it “an inspiring Afro-fusion anthem about sacrifice, determination, and the relentless pursuit of success”.
Those are different things, and the gap between them says something about him. He has never sat neatly in one genre. The EVEN description also tells you the subject. Despite the title, this is pitched as a song about work and what it costs, which fits what he says he writes about: ambition, struggle and everyday life in the city.
How it has done
A month after release, “Sinner” is third on his list of top tracks on Spotify. Only “Never Lose”, his 2023 single with Lyrical Joe, and “We Outside” from 2022 are above it, and both have had years to collect plays. The announcement post drew more than 1,100 likes on Instagram. He was still posting about the song on X on 1 October.
There is no music video yet. The only version on YouTube is the audio.
What came next
“Sinner” turned out to be the first of a run. “Jaakpaaa”, with Ka-Chi, followed on 21 September. Apple Music lists two more singles with dates: “Outside”, with Daboy Kenzi, on 20 October and “All Over” on 20 November.
Where to listen
“Sinner” is on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Audiomack, and it is still for sale on EVEN. You can play a preview on his AfroYard profile.
