Biography

AK Songstress is Akosua Kwakye, a Ghanaian reggae and dancehall singer. She found her voice early and was already performing at secondary school, and she later signed to Paradise Entertainment.

In 2014 she became the first woman to win Discovery of the Year for Dancehall/Reggae Artiste at the BASS Awards. In 2015 she was named Best Female Musician (Ghana) at Nigeria’s City People Entertainment Awards.

Her biggest song is “Jonathan” (2021), whose video has passed 8.6 million views on YouTube. Soon after it took off she told Peace FM she had been facing spiritual attacks because of its success. “My Proposal”, “Move On”, “Woman Trailer” and “Someone’s Boyfriend” followed on Waka Music.

Her catalogue includes collaborations with Sarkodie (“Ware Me”), Kuami Eugene (“Give Dem”), Efya (“Wonua”), Medikal (“Nkomo”) and Edem (“Gbee Body”), plus the projects Ascension, King of the Queens, the compilation History and Timeless (The Reggae Album). In November 2026 she returned with the single “Snatchers Association”.
