Biography
Cassper Nyovest is Refiloe Maele Phoolo, a South African rapper, producer and businessman born in Mahikeng on 16 December 1990. He was rapping by 12, left school at 16 to sign with the motswako label Impact Sounds, and moved to Johannesburg in 2008 to chase music on his own terms.
“Gusheshe” (2013) and “Doc Shebeleza” (2014) made him a star, and his debut album Tsholofelo, named after his sister, sat at the top of iTunes South Africa for two months in 2014. He launched Family Tree Records that year. In 2015 he sold out the Ticketpro Dome with Fill Up the Dome and released his second album, Refiloe, on the night. The Fill Up concerts then moved to Orlando Stadium, FNB Stadium, Moses Mabhida and Royal Bafokeng.
Thuto (2017) and the kwaito-leaning Sweet and Short (2018) kept him on top, and A.M.N (Any Minute Now) (2020) and Solomon (2023) followed. He has also taken part in celebrity boxing matches and moved into amapiano with “Siyathandana”.
