Kwartengg

Kwartengg is the stage name of Bernard Kwarteng, a singer, rapper and filmmaker from Kumasi. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and his work also takes in fashion. He started writing songs at about 14, in junior high school. Samini was the artist he wanted to be then, and Osibisa was the band he grew up on.

His first project, Ired, has seven songs and is dated 2019. Two short sets followed: Akatafour Dwom in August 2024 and Akatafour Dwom II in February 2025. Then came three singles through Elevenosix Studio in late 2025, “As It Is”, “Wave” and “Power”. Asked about genre, he says he dislikes boxes and would rather call what he makes soul music.

In May 2026 he released “Out The Mud” with M.anifest, produced by Mike Millz On’Em. M.anifest wrote his verse in the studio in Accra, and Kwartengg directed, edited and colour graded the video himself. “Charging”, with Beeztrap KOTM, followed on 30 September 2026. He is still based in Kumasi and says he sees no need to move to Accra to be heard.
