Samini

Samini, once known as Batman Samini, is Emmanuel Andrews Samini, a Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artist born in Accra with roots in Wa in the Upper West Region. He calls his sound African dancehall, a blend of reggae, highlife and hip-hop, and in 2018 he was made a chief in Wa with the title Pebilii Naa.

He started out in a church choir at 14 and went professional in 1999. His debut album Dankwansere (2004), carried by “Linda”, topped Ghanaian charts and won two Ghana Music Awards. In 2006 he won Best African Act at the MOBO Awards, and in 2008 he was named African Artiste of the Year at The Headies. Samini (2007), Dagaati (2008), C.E.O (2010), Next Page (2013) and Breaking News (2015) followed. Untamed (2018) was named Album of the Year by Reggaeville.

Through his High Grade Family label he mentored Kofi Kinaata, and he has shared stages with Sean Paul, Damian Marley, Shaggy and Steel Pulse. He also holds a project management degree from GIMPA, where he was student president. His album Origin8a arrived in 2026.
