Biography
Kwesi Arthur is Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur, a rapper, singer and producer from Tema Community 9. He finished Tema Secondary School in 2013, but a lack of money stopped him going to university, and he nearly took a job as a security guard. He says Drake’s Thank Me Later is what got him writing.
His debut EP Live from Nkrumah Krom (2017) carried “Grind Day”. Its remix with Sarkodie and Medikal became one of the biggest Ghanaian rap songs of the decade, and in 2018 he was nominated for Best New International Act at the BET Awards. Live from Nkrumah Krom Vol II (2019) did more than two million streams in its first week, and “Live From The 233” was among the most-streamed African songs on Apple Music in 2020.
He has won Rapper of the Year and Hip Hop Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards and was the second Ghanaian after Sarkodie to be nominated for the BET Hip Hop Awards cypher. His debut album Son Of Jacob came out in 2022, followed by This Is Not The Tape III (2024). He has worked with Nasty C, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, R2Bees and M.anifest.
