Sika (feat. Shatta Wale)

Medikal and Shatta Wale have a new song out. “Sika”, credited to Medikal featuring Shatta Wale, arrived on streaming services on Friday, 2 October 2026, with an audio visualiser posted to Medikal’s YouTube channel the same morning. It is a single, one track long, and it runs just under two and a half minutes (2:25).

Sika is the Twi word for money. Anyone who has followed these two for the past seven years will know that is home ground for both of them.

Release details

The song is out through Ziiki Media, the distributor that has handled Medikal’s catalogue for several years, and Apple Music files it under hip-hop. The production credit on the visualiser goes to Atown TSB. There is no full music video yet, only the visualiser, so the audio is doing the talking for now.

The release did not come out of nowhere. YouTube reaction channels were already talking about an “incoming” Medikal and Shatta Wale song called “Sika” a couple of days before it dropped, which suggests the camp let the title slip early to build some noise.

It also landed on a busy day for Medikal. “Long Distance”, his joint single with Abochi, came out on the same date, so fans woke up to two new Medikal songs at once.

Seven years of Medikal and Shatta Wale

This is far from their first time on a record together. The partnership goes back to early 2019, when Shatta Wale and Fella Makafui jumped on the remix of Medikal’s “Omo Ada (Dem Sleep)”. That remix was a hit, and it opened a door that neither man has closed since.

In July 2020 Shatta Wale returned the favour with “Miss Money”, featuring Medikal. November 2021 was especially busy. “Why Always Me?” came out on the 19th, a day after the “Be Afraid” remix, where the two shared space with Gold Up and the Jamaican dancehall artist Markus Myrie. Then in January 2022 they put out “Stubborn Academy” as a joint single.

The run carried on. Medikal’s 2024 EP HEALING had “Allow Me”, with Shatta Wale and the British rapper Kojo Funds. In June 2025 came “Shoulder” with Beeztrap KOTM, whose video was directed by Yaw Skyface. Four months later, in October 2025, Shatta Wale showed up again on “I Did It” from Medikal’s Disturbation 2.

That is eight songs before “Sika”, and the list leaves out a few loose videos and freestyles. Not many pairings in Ghanaian music have kept going this long.

Why the pairing keeps working

Part of it is simple contrast. Medikal is a rapper first, quick with punchlines and comfortable switching between Pidgin, Twi and English. Shatta Wale comes from dancehall, and his voice carries a melody even when he is mostly shouting. When they share a record, one supplies the bars and the other supplies the hook energy, and neither has to pretend to be the other.

There is also the friendship. Shatta Wale and Medikal have been close away from the studio for years, and their fans overlap heavily. We covered one of their more public moments in 2024, when the two handed out cash to fans at the airport on their return to Accra. A song called “Sika” fits that image almost too neatly.

Where Medikal is right now

Medikal has had a heavy 2026, though most of it has come through singles and guest spots rather than a full album. On his own name he has put out “Ahoya” in March, “Their Back” in June and “Stay Strong” in September. He also appeared on Essumann’s “Big Bricks II” with Lalid in February.

The features have been constant. Olivetheboy’s “Stopit” in July, Lalid’s “Suffer” in August, Mr Drew’s “Steeze” in September and “Allo” on Kelvyn Boy’s album 2nd Step, released on 25 September, all carry his name. We looked at how often his name turned up in September in our piece on the guests connecting Ghana’s September releases. “Sika” is a chance to put the focus back on his own work, with the one collaborator he has trusted more than anyone.

Where Shatta Wale is right now

Shatta Wale’s year has been about his album African King, which followed Voice of the Crown from 2025. He has kept the singles coming since then, and the video for “Obaake” went up on his channel a couple of months ago. He turns 42 on 17 October, and last year his birthday show at Black Star Square drew a huge crowd, so October tends to be a loud month for him. A new song with Medikal two weeks before his birthday keeps his name in the conversation.

Our first take

At 2:25, “Sika” does not hang around. That length is normal for Ghanaian singles in 2026, where songs are cut short enough to loop on TikTok and Instagram, and it suits a record built around a one-word hook. Whether it ends up next to “Omo Ada” and “Shoulder” among their best work together will depend on how the streets and the DJs take it over the next few weeks. A proper video would help.

For now, it is a new Medikal and Shatta Wale record built around money, which is exactly what most of their fans hoped they would get.

Where to listen

“Sika” is on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Audiomack, Boomplay, Tidal and Deezer. You can play the preview and find every link on the “Sika” song page, and catch up on both artists on the Medikal and Shatta Wale profiles.
