Biography
Joey B is Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin, a Ghanaian rapper born on 20 August 1989 and raised in Accra, with Fante roots. He went to Accra High School and started writing songs for a group with friends at the age of six.
He came up alongside producer Lil Shaker and through Jayso’s Skillions crew, releasing “Strawberry Ginger” and “Chop Kenkey” in 2013. “Tonga” (2014), with Sarkodie, made him a star. Singles such as “U X Me”, “Sunshine”, “Sweetie Pie” with King Promise and “Baby Mama” with Sarkodie followed. In 2015 Adidas made him its first brand ambassador in Africa.
His projects include Eighty Nine (2016), the Darryl EP (2017) and Lava Feels (2020), and in 2026 he released Sexy Highlife. He was nominated for Hiplife/Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the 2021 Ghana Music Awards. He has also guested for Medikal, EL, Mr Eazi and Magnom.
