King Promise is Gregory Bortey Newman, a Ghanaian singer and songwriter from Accra whose smooth mix of Afrobeats and highlife has made him one of the most consistent hitmakers in the country. He works with the producer KillBeatz and records through his own 5K Records.
“Oh Yeah” (2017), produced by KillBeatz, was his breakout, and “Selfish”, “Tokyo” and “Sisa” kept him on the radio. His debut album As Promised arrived in 2019, followed by 5 Star in 2022.
“Terminator” (May 2023) was the biggest song of his career. It was Ghana’s most-streamed song on Spotify that year, passed 200 million streams across platforms, and got remixes with Young Jonn and with Tiwa Savage and Sean Paul. It anchored his third album True to Self (2024), with Sarkodie, Shallipopi, Fave and Ladipoe, which won Album of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. His next album, See What We’ve Done, arrived in 2026.
