Biography

Obibini is Kwaku Boafo (full name David Kwaku Effum Boafo), a Ghanaian rapper from Effiduase in the Sekyere East district of the Ashanti Region. His stage name is an acronym: Obviously Black Is Beautiful, Infinite & Naturally Inspiring. He is an old student of Adisadel College, where he formed the rap group Ill Deadly Ministers (IDM), and he spent more than a decade on the underground scene before his break.

That break came in June 2017, when Zylofon Media, the label owned by Menzgold chief executive Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), signed him. “The Statement”, “Lemme Know” with A.I., “Ahye Me” with KiDi, “The Dream” and “Balenciagas” with Frydai and Sarkodie followed, and his album Diagrams arrived in August 2019. When Menzgold collapsed and almost every act left Zylofon, he stayed. “It is more like passion than anything else,” he told Graphic Showbiz in 2022.

In August 2021 Amerado aimed a line at him in a freestyle on Tim Westwood’s show in London. Obibini answered with “Deceased”, Amerado came back with “The Throne”, and Obibini replied again with “Carcass”. NAM1 joined in on Twitter, teasing a concert for his rapper. The same summer brought the “Yardie” remix with Stonebwoy and Akiyana.

He has two Ghana Music Awards nominations for Best Rap Performance and no win, which he called “an insult” in October 2025. His 2026 singles include “Scary Deity”, “Hustle 101”, “The Bozay Story”, “Nebula” with Ko-Jo Cue and “Blue Film”.
