Lasmid Is Everywhere: Six Songs in Ghana’s Top 100 and a New One on the Way

Lasmid, Ghanaian singer and rapper

Open Apple Music’s Top 100 for Ghana this week and you will keep running into the same voice. Lasmid is credited on six of the hundred songs. Only Kweku Smoke, Black Sherif, AratheJay, Asake and O’Kenneth appear more often, and two of them also sit on Apple’s continent-wide Afrobeats Hits: Best of 2026 playlist. On Friday morning he adds another: a new single called “Mmrɛ (Time)”.

For a singer and rapper who was still known as Charger when he entered a talent show in 2019, it has been a quick climb. Here is how Lasmid got here, what is on the charts right now, and what we know about the new song.

Lasmid’s six songs in Ghana’s Top 100

These are the positions on Apple Music’s Top 100: Ghana as of 5 November 2026. Only two of the six are his own singles. The other four are songs where another artist leads and he shares the credit.

Position Song Credited artists
2 Faith Kweku Smoke & Lasmid
32 Liquor Store Lasmid
37 Signature KiDi & Lasmid
45 Wish I Had a Girlfriend Reggie, Lasmid & Beeztrap KOTM
81 Darkest Style D Global & Lasmid
92 Biggest Nathaniel Lasmid

“Faith” is the big one. It sits at number 2, behind only Kweku Smoke’s “Bra”, and its official video had passed 1.6 million YouTube views by 5 November. “Signature” with KiDi and “Darkest Style” with D Global also made Apple’s Afrobeats Hits: Best of 2026, at numbers 40 and 41, which puts Lasmid on two of the handful of Ghanaian songs on that list.

From Charger to MTN Hitmaker champion

Lasmid was born Ladsmid Nathaniel Owusu on 24 May 1999. He comes from Takoradi in the Western Region, went to primary school in a village near Dunkwa and finished secondary school at Takoradi Technical Institute. Straight after senior high school he entered MTN Hitmaker, still performing as Charger.

He won the show’s eighth season in 2019, which came with a GH₵120,000 recording contract. The producer Kaywa then signed him to Highly Spiritual Music. His first singles there came with well-known guests: “Odo Brassband” with Kofi Kinaata in 2020, “Sika” with Dead Peepol and “Father” with Mr Drew in 2021. It was the 2022 remix of “Sika” with Kuami Eugene that first made people outside the Western Region take notice. Pulse Ghana went as far as calling him the heir to Kofi Kinaata, because he moves between singing and rapping the same way.

“Friday Night” changed everything

Then came Friday Night, released by Highly Spiritual Music in June 2022. The song went viral on TikTok and went on to top several charts in Ghana, and its official video has now passed 7 million views. It is still the song most people think of when they hear his name. That year even Naira Marley said publicly that he would like to sign him.

Not every moment went to plan. His performance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was widely criticised, and in an August 2023 interview with Andy Dosty he admitted it had not met his own standards. He answered with music: “Bad Boy”, which he released himself through ONErpm in July 2023, then Puul in February 2024. The “Puul” video is now past 11 million views, the most of any song he leads.

A new home at N.E Records

“Puul” was also the first Lasmid single on N.E Records, which has released his music since, in partnership with Dapper Music & Ent on some titles. That run includes Olivia (March 2025), “No Issues” with King Promise (November 2025), “Biggest Nathaniel” (July 2026) and “Liquor Store” (August 2026). The YouTube upload of “Biggest Nathaniel” is even credited to “N.E Records & Lasmid”.

In June 2025 he also released a full project with TML Vibez, Sweet Songs 4 You. Most of its ten songs are the pair together, including “ghana jollof”, “ololufe” and “dlvr”, and Lasmid keeps “olivia” for himself. Two months later they released a live recording of their Pocket Stage Concert.

The most wanted guest in Ghanaian music

What really explains this week’s Top 100 is how often other artists call him. His Apple Music page lists dozens of songs where someone else leads and he features or shares the credit. Some of the biggest:

“Butta My Bread” with JZyNO (2023). His largest audience by far. The official video has passed 31 million YouTube views, and the song was later remixed with Nasty C and Sid Sriram.

“Lavida Loca” with Sarkodie (2025). Sarkodie brought him onto his own single in July 2025.

“9:45” with King Promise and Ladipoe (2024). A slot on King Promise’s album True To Self. A year later the two released “No Issues” under Lasmid’s name.

“Faith” with Kweku Smoke (2026). Taken from Kweku Smoke’s NO DAYS OFF, whose songs fill most of Ghana’s top ten this week.

“Signature” with KiDi and “Bendova” with Wendy Shay (2026). Two very different pop records in the same year, and proof that he fits almost anywhere.

Earlier features with Amerado (“Grace”), Ypee (“Ewuraba”), Kelvyn Boy (“Man Down”) and Kashcoming (“Bebe” remix) fill out the picture. You can see the full list on the “Featured On” section of his AfroYard profile.

“Mmrɛ (Time)”: what we know about the new single

Lasmid’s next solo single, “Mmrɛ (Time)”, is listed on Apple Music for release on Friday 6 November 2026 at 08:00 GMT. Mmrɛ is the Twi word for time, as the English title in brackets makes clear. Like “Liquor Store” and “Biggest Nathaniel”, it comes out through N.E Records, and Apple files it under hip-hop and rap.

That is all the label has made public so far, so we will not guess at the content. Once the song is out we will add it to his profile, and if the new single starts climbing the way “Faith” did, that would make seven songs in the Top 100.
